Georgian sash windows were built to stand the test of time — often crafted from high-quality Pitch Pine, a dense and durable timber. At PJPS, we specialise in restoring these beautifully proportioned windows, preserving their architectural significance while enhancing their function for modern living.

TRADITIONAL GLAZING CONFIGURATIONS

Earlier Georgian windows typically featured an ‘8 over 8’ glazing pattern. This reflected the limited glassmaking techniques of the time, which restricted pane size. As glass production advanced, the popular ‘6 over 6’ configuration emerged, with slimmer glazing bars helping retain strength and visual clarity.

We specialise in replicating these historical features using modern joinery techniques that blend period charm with contemporary glazing performance.

HOW WE RECREATE THE GEORGIAN LOOK

FALSE BAR SYSTEM

Our preferred approach for conservation projects involves a timber adhesion system. This includes:

✔️ A bespoke grid placed inside the double-glazed unit at the time of manufacture

✔️ Timber bars applied externally on both sides of the glass

✔️ Internal bars matching the decorative moulding of the sash

✔️ External bars shaped to emulate traditional putty angles

The result is a refined, slim bar design that visually mimics traditional single panes, while delivering the benefits of modern insulation. This system is widely accepted in conservation areas.

SPECIALIST GLAZING OPTIONS

For more historically sensitive properties or listed buildings, we also offer specialist slimline double-glazed units. These feature:
