We carry out a complete sash window overhaul to ensure smooth operation, improved insulation and long-term durability. Below is a summary of what’s typically involved:

 

✔️ Removal of Sashes and Beads
Staff beads and parting beads are carefully scored and removed, allowing access to the sashes and sash cords.

 

✔️ Inspection and Timber Repairs
Frames and sashes are assessed for rot or damage. Any affected areas are either professionally filled or spliced with matching timber.

 

✔️ Cleaning and Reputtying
Loose putty is removed and replaced with fresh putty. Existing, sound putty is left intact. Glass is cleaned and over-painting trimmed back.

 

✔️ Box Cleaning and Maintenance
Weight boxes are cleaned to protect new cords, and pulley wheels are serviced for optimal movement.

 

✔️ Discreet Draught Proofing
Meeting rails are subtly altered to accommodate modern draught proofing, preserving the original look while enhancing efficiency.

 

✔️ New Draught-Proofed Beads
New staff and parting beads are fitted with integrated draught seals.

 

✔️ Reassembly and Finishing Touches
The sashes are re-hung, beading is fixed in place, and new brass ironmongery is installed (or original pieces retained upon request).

 

✔️ Preservation and Aftercare
All new timber components are fully preserved before fitting. Plastic beading is never used. Any new glass or timber work is itemised in your quotation. If further repairs are identified during restoration, we’ll always consult you before proceeding.
